DESCRIPTION:\nThe purpose of this course is to educate law enforcement offi
 cers about issues pertaining to serving as a mental health officer. The co
 urse covers the legal aspects of mental health commitments\, liability iss
 ues\, mental disorders\, and mental disabilities. Other areas covered incl
 ude:\n\n- Indicators of mental illness\;\n- Understanding mental illness\;
 \n- documenting the interpersonal relations necessary to effectively work 
 with the mentally ill\, their families\, and the mental health system\; an
 d\n- Intervention strategies for addressing both low- and high-risk situat
 ions.\n- Emergency Detention Orders\n\nThis course will serve as part of t
 he standards necessary for certification as a mental health officer by TCO
 LE.\n\nPLEASE NOTE:Participants must pass a proficiency exam at the end of
  the course with a score of 80 or higher.\n\nREQUIRED MATERIAL: Students a
