He is a leading exponent of sitar and founder of Antara School of Indian Classical Music in Austin, Texas. His musical family includes his mother, Manju Banerjee, his guru Pandit Kartick Kumar, Pandit Barun Pal, Niladri Kumar, Partho Das, Aparna Roy, and others. Indrajit has a special lyricism on sitar and tours extensively.
